Benue 2027: ‘We’ll remove Gov Alia from seat’ — PDP Teams up with Akume’s camp in strategic alliance
The Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro, has announced a strategic partnership between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State and a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) aligned with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
IDOMA VOICE gathered that Abba Moro disclosed this during an expanded caucus meeting of the Benue PDP held at the residence of former Governor Samuel Ortom on Sunday.
According to him, the alliance is aimed at ending what he described as bad governance in the state and ensuring that Governor Hyacinth Alia is voted out of office in the next election.
“We are putting everything in place against bad governance in Benue. Something is not just adding up in Benue,” Moro said.
“We are all filing behind Chief Ortom to ensure that the strategic partnership between the PDP and the APC faction works. We are partnering on ideas to rescue Benue State. Any candidate that emerges from any of the parties, we would support him.”
The Senate Minority Leader accused the governor of marginalising the people of Benue South Senatorial District, insisting that political forces opposed to the current administration are determined to remove him from power in 2027.
Earlier in his remarks, Ortom urged party stakeholders, including local government chairmen and aspirants, to mobilise members for the forthcoming PDP e-registration exercise.
The former governor explained that only members with the new party membership card would be eligible to participate in the party’s primaries scheduled for May.
Ortom also assured party members that the PDP in the state is no longer divided, noting that all internal disputes have been resolved by the courts.
On the emerging partnership between the PDP and the APC faction in the state, he said the move was necessitated by what he described as the current political and governance realities in Benue.
According to him, leaders in the state cannot afford to remain silent while the state allegedly drifts due to poor leadership.
Barr. Pius Akutah, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and an APC governorship aspirant, said Benue needs peace and stability as the 2027 elections approach.
Akutah warned that some individuals in positions of authority have continued to fuel division and tension in the state.
Also speaking, another APC governorship aspirant, Sebastian Hon, SAN, said Benue is facing what he described as an existential threat, stressing that the people must unite to address the situation.
Hon noted that the primary responsibility of any government is to guarantee the security of lives and property, adding that insecurity has continued to rise in the state.
Similarly, former Attorney-General of the Federation, Michael Aondoakaa, also an APC governorship aspirant, called on Benue people to reject violent politics.
He described the strategic partnership coordinated by Ortom as a welcome development and urged well-meaning citizens of the state to support the initiative.
