Security personnel in Benue State have acted quickly to defuse rising tensions following the alleged killing of cattle in the Aliade area, an incident that threatened to trigger a retaliatory clash.

Intelligence reports indicate that on April 3, suspected youths attacked herders, killed several cattle, and shared the meat among themselves.

The development reportedly escalated fears within the community, as affected herders were said to be weighing possible revenge, raising concerns over potential violence.

In response, a combined security team, in collaboration with Operation Anyam Nyor, was immediately deployed to the affected location to restore calm and prevent further escalation.

Security agencies have also commenced a manhunt for those behind the attack, while efforts are ongoing to recover relevant evidence linked to the incident.

The matter has since been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for thorough investigation.

Authorities have assured residents that measures remain in place to sustain peace and prevent any breakdown of law and order across the area.
