Benue APC crisis update: Another aspirant, 500 others set to dump party over Akume’s endorsement of Lawani

No fewer than 500 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and a senatorial aspirant are set to dump the party in Benue South senatorial district.

IDOMA VOICE gathered that the impending mass exodus might not be unconnected with the recent endorsement of former deputy governor of the state, Steven Lawani by George Akume as the next senator representing the zone.

Impeccable sources said all efforts by the aspirant to convince Akume to allow them go into the real contest hit the rocks, hence his decision to move away with his supporters.

“At the moment, the aspirant is yet to decide which party he would be joining,” the source said.

Asked the real cause of the crisis in the state, the source quoted the aggrieved aspirant as accusing the Akume of turning the party to his private company.

“Why won’t he leave when Akume has turned APC to his private company in Benue? He has changed the party from All Progressives Congress to Akume Private Company, APC,” the source claimed.

According to another source, the aspirant is planning to team up with Usman Abubakar, Young Alhaji, to give the APC a run for their money.

The incident came barely 24 hours after another aspirant threatened to join the Social Democratic Party over the secret endorsement of Lawani by Akume, the senator representing Benue Zone B at the Red Chamber.

IDOMA VOICE had it on good authorities that former governor of the state; Senator George Akume, had at a meeting in Makrudi endorsed Lawani, 70, as the possible successor of the incumbent, Senator David Mark.

According to insiders, Akume reportedly told other aspirants to back Lawani, whom according to him can match anybody that would bear the PDP’s flag.
