Benue Assembly urges FG to arrest killers of 11 in Katsina-Ala attack
The Benue State House of Assembly has urged the Federal Government to strengthen security in vulnerable communities and ensure the arrest and prosecution of those behind the recent attack on Sai Community in Mbajir Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.
The resolution was adopted during Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga.
Lawmakers condemned the attack, allegedly carried out by suspected armed herders, describing the killings as barbaric, unacceptable and a grave threat to the safety of residents.
The House called on both the Federal Government and the Benue State Government to intensify security operations in the affected communities to prevent further attacks and safeguard lives and property.
It also urged security agencies to swiftly apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the killings in accordance with the law.
The resolution followed Sunday’s attack on Sai Community, where 11 people were reportedly killed by suspected armed herders, sparking renewed concerns over the deteriorating security situation in parts of Benue State.
In a related resolution, the Assembly directed the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to immediately provide relief materials, including food and other essential items, to victims of the attack.
The lawmakers said urgent humanitarian intervention was needed to alleviate the suffering of affected residents while efforts continue to restore peace and normalcy in the community.
