Benue govt warns against unauthorised announcements of traditional ruler death
Published
3 years agoon
The Government of Benue State has noted with concern instances in which unauthorized individuals have taken it upon themselves to proclaim the demise of traditional rulers in the state through various social media platforms. This conduct not only violates cultural norms but also undermines the authority and dignity of our esteemed traditional institutions.
Traditional rulers, as custodians of our heritage and embodiments of our cultural identity, play a crucial role in fostering unity, peace, and development within our communities. The responsibility of formally announcing the passing of these revered leaders lies exclusively with the traditional council, possessing the requisite cultural and customary protocols to handle such sensitive matters.
Henceforth, we strongly advise and warn against any person, group, or entity engaging in the unauthorized dissemination of information concerning the death of a traditional ruler in Benue State. This advisory is issued to safeguard the integrity of our cultural heritage and to uphold the respect owed to our traditional institutions.
Words and actions carry significant consequences. Unauthorized announcements not only cause unnecessary panic and confusion among the populace but also show disrespect to the grieving process of the affected traditional council, the bereaved family, and the entire community. It is imperative for all citizens to exercise restraint and responsibility when dealing with information related to our traditional rulers.
We urge community leaders, social media influencers, and the general public to collaborate in preserving the dignity of our traditional institutions. Respect for the customs and traditions that unite us as a people is paramount, and we trust that this advisory will serve as a reminder of the importance of adhering to established norms.
The Government of Benue State remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting cultural heritage, fostering unity, and ensuring the overall well-being of our citizens. Let us collectively strive to preserve and protect the values that make Benue State a unique and harmonious society.
