Flood alert: Benue govt urges evacuation ahead of Lagdo Dam water release

The acting Executive Secretary of Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir James Anodoakaa Iorpuu, initiated a campaign to raise awareness about the imminent flooding due to water release from Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam into River Benue.

This flooding is expected to impact residents along the riverbanks and those residing in flood-prone regions across 22 Local Government Areas. Sir James Iorpuu urges residents near the riverbanks to relocate to higher ground for safety. He has designated public schools in the affected Local Government Areas as shelters for potential flood victims.

The Ag. BSEMA Chief has identified several flood-prone areas within Makurdi, including Achusa, Idye, Wurukum market, Genabe, Industrial layout, Demekpe, Wadata market, Rice Mill, Inongun, Agbohough, Judges Quarters, and Gyado Villa.

BSEMA remains vigilant regarding the potential impacts of the approaching flood and pledges to keep the public informed about the evolving situation.
