The Member representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on National Inland Waterways, Chief Pst. Hon Ojotu Ojema FESMI, has called on security agencies to redouble their efforts to tackle the rising insecurity across the nation.

Ojema called on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, during a visit to the Benue State Commissioner of Police, Hassan Steve Yabanet, at his office.

The main purpose of the visit, according to Pst. Ojema, was to engage with the new commissioner on ways to improve security in the Apa and Agatu Local Government Areas (LGAs).

He commended the Benue State Police Command for their efforts in rescuing victims of the Benue Links Bus and Mopol 80 Odugbo kidnappings, which had posed significant security challenges in Apa and Agatu.

The Aboh-OcheK’Idoma lawmaker also expressed his gratitude to the men and women of the Nigerian Police for their resilience and sacrifices, emphasizing that their efforts would not go in vain.

Despite these successes, Chief Ojema stressed that much more work remains to be done to address the renewed security challenges, particularly in Apa and Agatu LGAs. He urged the security agencies to intensify their efforts to restore lasting peace and security to the region.

As a federal legislator, Chief Ojema has been providing support to security agencies across the two LGAs and vowed to continue his assistance until the region’s security issues are fully resolved. He called on the Benue State Police Command to prioritize the security concerns in Apa and Agatu.

In response, Benue State Commissioner of Police, Hassan Steve Yabanet, expressed his appreciation for Ojema’s visit, despite his busy schedule. He assured the lawmaker of enhanced policing efforts in Apa, Agatu, and the entire state.

Chief Ojema also met with the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Benue State, Dr. Nka Obi-Bisong, to discuss strategies for restoring peace and security in Apa and Agatu. Dr. Nka thanked the lawmaker for his engagement and reaffirmed that security, stability, and peace across all local government areas in Benue State remained her office’s top priorities. She pledged to work diligently toward achieving these goals.
