Benue LG election: PDP releases guidelines for nomination of candidates

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has announced guidelines for the nomination of candidates for the upcoming Local Government election. This follows the release of the election timetable, scheduled for October 5, by the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).

The guidelines, signed by the party’s Caretaker Committee Publicity Secretary, Hon. Oryina Orvaa, were made public on Monday. According to Orvaa, the screening of aspirants will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, as follows:

• Councillorship aspirants from Zone A will be screened at London Galaxy Hotel in Adikpo at 10:00 am.
• Councillorship aspirants from Zone B will have their screening at the PDP State Secretariat in Makurdi, also at 10:00 am.
• Those from Zone C will be screened at Leach Hotel in Otukpo, starting at 10:00 am.

For chairmanship aspirants who have purchased and submitted their expression of interest and nomination forms, screening will be held at the party headquarters in Makurdi on the same day.

Orvaa also noted that the primaries for Councillorship aspirants will take place on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the respective council ward headquarters. The primaries for Chairmanship aspirants will be held at the local government area headquarters on the same day.

He further mentioned that any appeals arising from the screening process and the conduct of the primaries will be heard on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the party headquarters in Makurdi.

Orvaa urged all aspirants to ensure that their completed forms are submitted along with necessary documents, including tax clearance certificates, party membership and voters cards, photocopies of nomination and expression of interest forms, evidence of payment of handling charges, and academic qualifications, all of which must be presented during the screening.
