1. Benue State governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has promised to continue to provide adequate and timely motivation to teachers through emoluments, workshops and trainings to equip them with skills and modern strategies that will help them become more efficient.
He made his pledge on Friday while commissioning projects executed in the first 100 days of the chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Dr. Grace Adagba.
2. Suspected armed herdsmen have reportedly hacked three farmers to death at Ogbaulu community in Agatu Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue State.
It was gathered that the victims were murdered Friday afternoon in their farms by the marauders who sneaked into the community from neighbouring Apa LGA.
3. The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress in Benue State has worsened, with the factional executives flexing muscles over the planned local government election in the state.
The election has been slated for July 6, 2024.
The party has been embroiled in an internal crisis with a faction loyal to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, in a political supremacy battle with the faction loyal to the Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia.
4. Benue State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has described the 2024 Workers’ Day celebration as the first of its kind in three years.
It said the non-payment of salaries, pensions, lack of promotions, and absence of gratuities had derailed past events.
5. An associate professor from the Faculty of Law at the Prince Audu Abubakar University, Kogi State, Dr Sarinu Ettor Kabo, who was killed by terrorists about a week ago will be buried today (Saturday) at Gboloko Bassa in the Dekina local government of Kogi State.
6. The Benue state government has ordered two communities in Guma Local Government Area (LGA) of the state to steer clear of the disputed River Antse.
Unyande and Kwenev communities have been at war over ownership of the river, a conflict that has claimed many lives for the past 30 years.
7. Kabo was shot dead along Makurdi-Naka Road, between Adaka and Kula communities in Benue State on Monday, April 22, 2024.
8. Over 40 illegal structures defacing major roads and streets within Makurdi, the state capital, were destroyed by the Benue State Urban Development Board on Thursday.
The board has subsequently identified and earmarked over 800 houses built on waterways and drainages for demolition within Makurdi metropolis.
9. The Benue State Government has waded in to quell an over 30 years communal feud between two communities in Guma Local Government Area, (LGA) of the State.
The Special Adviser to the Governor Hyacinth Alia on Security and Internal Affairs, Chief Joseph Har, PSP, who spoke to newsmen in his office shortly after a meeting with stakeholders from the LGA, said both communities have been ordered to stay clear of the disputed axis of River Antse pending Government determination on the matte
10. A middle-aged Benue man, identified as Prince Matthew Chile has regained his freedom on his Birthday, Sunday, 5th May, 2024 after spending almost a week in the hands of his abductors, suspected to be armed Fulani herdsmen.
Prince Chile, a native of Sengev in Gwer-West LGA was kidnapped on Tuesday, 30th April, 2024 while travelling with 3 others along Makurdi-Naka road at about 6pm.
