Benue now relatively peaceful, only 3 LGAs face security threats – Gov Alia
Hyacinth Alia has disclosed that the security situation in Benue State has improved considerably, stating that only three out of the state’s 23 local government areas are still experiencing limited security concerns.
The governor made this known on Thursday when he received Olufemi Oluyede during a visit to the Government House in Makurdi.
In a statement issued by the Government House Information Officer, Kehe Hon, Alia explained that the security climate in the state has improved significantly since his administration began on May 29, 2023.
“Out of the 23 local government areas in Benue State, about 17 were under serious security threat when we came in.
Today, only three are experiencing minimal threats, and even in those areas, there is relative peace,” he said.
The governor commended the Nigerian Army and the Federal Government for their continued support in tackling insecurity in the state.
He added that the collaboration between the military and the state government has contributed greatly to the restoration of peace in many affected communities.
Alia further urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible information, stressing that citizens should see security operatives as partners working to protect lives and property.
