Benue: One dead, two injured as bandits attack checkpoint in Katsina-Ala

Suspected bandits have attacked a Civil Protection Guard checkpoint in Abaji town, located in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving one person dead and two others injured.

Security sources said the attack occurred on March 4, 2026, when the armed assailants stormed the checkpoint and opened fire.

The victim, identified as Aondohemba Kavee, 43, was reportedly shot during the assault and later died from his injuries.

Two other persons Orgase Nyikya and a passerby, Tyolumum Tsenong also sustained gunshot wounds in the incident.

The injured victims were rushed to Katsina-Ala General Hospital for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

Following the attack, troops of the Nigerian Army alongside other security operatives moved swiftly to the area, secured the scene, and arrested two suspects believed to be connected to the assault.

Security forces have since launched further operations to track down other members of the gang who fled after the attack.
