Orphans, widows pray for President Tinubu, Gov Alia as Onjeh delivers palliatives
In continuation of his supervision of the distribution of palliatives in Benue South by the Benue State Government, the APC Senatorial Candidate for Benue South in the 2023 General Elections, Com. Daniel Onjeh, yesterday visited and delivered palliatives to widows, as well as two orphanages in Otukpo, the administrative capital of Benue South.
While Onjeh met with the widows under the auspices of their various widows’ associations, he visited orphans at the Children of Mary Orphanage and Motherless Babies Home at the GRA, and the Restorer Of Paths Care Foundation Orphanage/Rehabilitation Home located at Otada.
Speaking during the visits, Onjeh informed that he was merely a messenger, as the gesture was an initiative of the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to support the needy, less privileged and the poorest of the poor in the society in coping with the prevailing harsh economy, which is compounded by the short-term effects of the policy on fuel subsidy removal.
The APC chieftain equally stated that the Benue State Governor, His Excellency the Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, has honestly and diligently implemented the policy to the latter in Benue State, by fairly and equitably distributing all the palliatives he received from the Federal Government across the three senatorial districts of the state, to the benefit of the teeming masses.
Com. Onjeh further stated that he opted to lead the visit to the widows and orphans in order to ensure that all the relief materials earmarked for them actually get to them, as they constitute a very special and dear category of the needy in any society.
The former Chairman of the Governing Board of PRODA, Enugu, offered words of encouragement to the beneficiaries, stating that the current economic situation in the country will improve sooner than expected, having a firm belief that the policy direction of the current administration of President Tinubu holds great promise which will soon be delivered to Nigerians.
Onjeh further opined that the policy on fuel subsidy removal will favour all Nigerians in the mid and long terms, as hitherto under the subsidy regime, only a few individuals and cabals in the oil industry were benefitting stupendously at the expense of the generality of Nigerians.
“The fuel subsidy removal policy will free up the much-needed funds, as finances that had previously been stolen under the guise of funding fuel subsidy will now be channeled into providing the necessary critical infrastructure that will fast-track Nigeria’s drive to industrialization and diversification of the economy,” stated Onjeh.
Meanwhile, speaking to journalists during the visits, Com. Onjeh appealed to all State actors, well-to-do individuals and corporate organizations to kindly extend some support to the needy, vulnerable and less privileged in the society, to enable them cope with the current economic hardship in the country occasioned by the declining global economy and exacerbated by the hike in fuel price due to the immediate effects of the policy on withdrawal of fuel subsidy.
The palliatives delivered by Com. Onjeh to the widows and orphans were several 50kg bags of rice and corn, along with cash tokens.
Receiving the relief materials on behalf of one of the widows’ associations visited, the Founder of Daughters of Zion Widows Organization, Mrs. Janet Ada Onoja, expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu and Governor Alia, for reaching out to them with the much desired relief at these critical times. She also prayed for the success of the APC Administrations at both the Federal and the Benue State levels.
Speaking on behalf of the orphans, the Founder of Restorer of Paths Care Foundation Orphanage/Rehabilitation Home, Mrs. Enuwa Efada Soo, said the palliatives delivered to them will go a long way in supporting the health, nutrition and general wellbeing of the children, while thanking Com. Daniel Onjeh for availing himself to render the selfless service to his people.
Also, one of the children at her orphanage, Master Emmanuel from Agatu, offered copious prayers for long life and divine blessings upon both President Tinubu and Governor Alia. While he prayed for more palliatives to come from the Federal Government, he equally asked God to grant President Tinubu the wisdom to change Nigeria for good, and that a new Nigeria should be birthed under President Tinubu.
Com. Onjeh has been supervising the distribution of FG’s palliatives in Benue South since 1st January this year, on the directive of the Benue State Governor, His Excellency Father Alia. The central distribution had earlier taken place on New Year’s day at the Ahmadu Bello Way, Otukpo. Onjeh said he’s now personally going round the orphanages and widows’ associations in Otukpo, to ensure that he delivers all the palliatives earmarked for them.
