Benue: Police repel bandit attack in Ugba, kill one, arrest another
Security operatives in Benue State have foiled an attempted attack by suspected bandits in Ugba, resulting in the death of one assailant and the arrest of another.
Credible sources disclosed that the incident happened in the early hours of February 13, 2026, at about 3:20 a.m., after security agencies received intelligence reports about suspicious movements toward the community.
Acting on the information, a patrol team was swiftly deployed to intercept the suspects.
Upon encountering the operatives, the attackers reportedly opened fire, triggering a gun battle.
During the exchange, one of the bandits was shot dead. His remains were later taken to a mortuary for preservation.
Officers at the scene also recovered a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle bearing the inscription “Chen I Tiv,” believed to be linked to the criminal group. One suspect was apprehended, while others fled into nearby bushes.
Sources added that security agencies have stepped up patrols and search operations in the area to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks.
