Benue Tribunal Judgment: Our stolen mandate in Konshisha has been restored – Tarkaa Solomon

Engr Tarkaa Solomon Msughter has hailed the recent ruling by the Benue State Local Government Election Tribunal, which declared him the rightful winner of the October 5, 2024, local government election in Konshisha.
He described the judgment as a victory for democracy and the people of Konshisha.
Recall that the Local Government Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja nullified the victories of nine out of the 23 APC council chairmen, including Hon Chikyaa Moses Terfa of Konshisha. The tribunal subsequently declared Engr Tarkaa as the duly elected chairman of the Konshisha Local Government Council.
In its ruling, the tribunal upheld the decisions of justices Theresa Igoche and Kume, asserting that the court must not only bark but must bark and bite, and where necessary, break bones.
The tribunal further labeled the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) as a meddlesome interloper, stating that the commission had no legal standing to interfere in party affairs.
It further directed Governor Hyacinth Alia to swear in the legitimate chairman within 14 days. Should the governor fail to comply, the Chief Judge of Benue State is to appoint a High Court judge to conduct the swearing-in. Once sworn in, the chairman is also tasked with inaugurating the duly elected councillors.
Reacting to the tribunal’s ruling, Engr Tarkaa expressed his gratitude for the judgment, emphasizing its importance in restoring the stolen mandate of the good people of Konshisha. He commended the judiciary for its role in upholding democracy and justice.
Tarkaa said, “This victory is not just mine, but a victory for the good people of Konshisha. The tribunal has rightfully restored the mandate that was stolen from us, and justice has prevailed.
“The judiciary has once again proven to be the last hope of the common man. I’m grateful for the tribunal’s fair and just decision, which upholds the will of the people.”
“Today, the good people of Konshisha have regained their rightful voice. I thank the tribunal for their courage and dedication to upholding democracy.”
“The tribunal’s decision affirms that no one, no matter how powerful, is above the law. It also sends a clear message that impunity will not be tolerated in our democracy.”
“This judgement is a clarion call to all who seek to undermine the will of the people. Democracy is not a game, and the law will always prevail.”
Tarkaa also commended the leader of the party in the state and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the APC chairman in Benue, Austine Agada, Dr Mathias Terwase Byuan, Executive Director Housing, Finance and Account, federal Housing Authority, Abuja, for standing against illegality and ensuring their victory.
