Borja Iglesias quits Spain’s men’s team over Rubiales’ refusal to resign
Borja Iglesias, the standout player from Real Betis, has firmly declared his decision to no longer participate as part of Spain’s national team. This proclamation comes in response to Spanish Football Association (FA) President Luis Rubiales’ determination to retain his position, despite widespread calls for his resignation.
Although it was anticipated that the FA chief would step down from his role on Friday, he opted to remain in his position. This choice has sparked criticism and demands for change from various quarters, following Rubiales’ controversial and forceful kiss on Spanish forward Jenni Hermoso during the medal ceremony after Spain’s victory against England last Sunday.
In light of Rubiales’ refusal to resign, Borja Iglesias took to Instagram to express his sentiments, stating, “I am sad and disappointed. I don’t feel represented by what happened today (Rubiales’ refusal to resign). I have made the decision not to return to the National Team until things change and this type of act does not go unpunished.”
