Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared his willingness to collaborate with the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to deliver good governance to Nigerians.

Governor Mohammed made this known on Thursday in Bauchi when Mr. Obi paid him a consultation visit at the Presidential Lodge.

He emphasized that their discussions focused on tackling poverty and insecurity beyond political, religious, or ethnic divides.

“We discussed state-specific challenges, and I deeply appreciate what he is doing as the leader of the opposition because, whether we like it or not, he holds that position in Nigeria today.

“I don’t want to give room for mischievous interpretations, but I must say that I am ready to work with Peter Obi. We will come together, close ranks, and ensure good governance for the country. We will provide a strong, knowledgeable opposition with clear timelines and vision to rescue and recover our nation.

“Our unity is a powerful message, and it will resonate. Many of my colleagues, the PDP governors, support this kind of partnership because it transcends party, region, and religion,” Mr. Mohammed said.

In his remarks, Mr. Obi explained that his visit was part of broader consultations on Nigeria’s future, particularly given Governor Mohammed’s role as Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum.

“This is a consultation and discussion meeting, and we will continue engaging in such talks about the future of this country. The North is a critical component of getting Nigeria on the right track.

“There is widespread poverty in Nigeria, and until we address it, criminality will persist. We must invest in critical sectors to lift people out of poverty and reduce crime,” Mr. Obi stated.

The two leaders held a closed-door meeting for over three hours before briefing the press.
