Lionel Messi, the football maestro, has secured his 8th Ballon d’Or, as reported by Sport. The news comes ahead of the official ceremony scheduled for October 30 in Paris, where Messi is expected to be honored for his outstanding performance in the previous year.

At 36 years old, Messi’s illustrious career reached its pinnacle when he led Argentina to victory in the World Cup in Qatar, showcasing exceptional talent and skills. Following this triumph, the iconic player made a move to Inter Miami from Paris Saint-Germain, making waves with his mesmerizing performances in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

This imminent triumph marks a significant moment in Ballon d’Or history, being the first time the award will go to a player outside of Europe. Additionally, it places Messi three steps ahead of his eternal rival, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite fierce competition from Erling Haaland, the Manchester City striker, and former PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe, Messi is expected to claim the award owing to his stellar contributions in Qatar.

On the women’s front, Sport also disclosed that Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati will be celebrated as the winner of the Women’s Ballon d’Or, having secured victory in the Women’s World Cup with Spain after a gripping final against England.
