‘My views on him have changed’ – El-Rufai backs Peter Obi for president
Bashir El-Rufai, a well-known critic of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has stated that his perception of Obi has changed.
Recall that Bashir, son of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, was among those who vehemently opposed Obi’s presidential bid in the 2023 election.
In a post on his official X handle, Bashir revealed that his negative view of Obi was influenced by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party he supported during the last election.
“Peter Obi is surprisingly not a bad person after all. My views on him have changed recently. My mind was poisoned by my former party members. Sai Obi!” he wrote.
His statement comes amid growing speculation that his father and Obi may join forces to contest the 2027 presidential election under the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
On Monday, Bashir’s father officially left the ruling APC for the SDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
