NECO releases 2023 SSCE external results [How to Check]
The National Examination Council NECO has announced the release of the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, with 67.35 percent of candidates achieving the milestone of scoring five credits or more, including in English Language and Mathematics. Out of the 74,950 candidates initially registered, 74,342 sat for the exams, with 50,066 successfully meeting the five-credit benchmark.
Speaking from the Council’s headquarters along the Minna-Bida road in Niger State, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, highlighted that a significant number—62,530 candidates, representing 84.11 percent—scored five credits and above across all subjects examined.
In detailing the examination process, Wushishi noted that a total of 29 subjects were examined. However, amidst the success stories, he addressed instances of malpractice. Two supervisors—one each in Oyo and Lagos States—were blacklisted due to poor supervision and an inability to maintain order among candidates.
Further, a center in Borno State faced similar consequences for aiding and abetting malpractice, specifically by sharing exam-related information via WhatsApp. Wushishi emphasized the Council’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process.
On the issue of malpractice, there was a notable decline. A total of 8,518 cases were reported, marking a decrease of 25.4 percent from the previous year’s figure of 11,419 cases in 2022.
