BREAKING: Nigeria miss automatic World Cup qualification despite win over Benin
A sensational hat-trick from Victor Osimhen and a goal from Frank Onyeka powered the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a commanding 4–0 victory over Benin Republic on Tuesday.
However, despite the emphatic win, Nigeria fell short of securing automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after South Africa’s Bafana Bafana defeated Rwanda 3–0 to top Group C.
The result means the Super Eagles’ impressive performance in Uyo was not enough to dislodge the South Africans, who sealed their place at the global tournament with a superior points tally.
