Great news for Super Eagles fans as Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been declared fit and ready for Nigeria’s quarter-final clash with Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Nwabali, who was taken off on a stretcher during the Round of 16 victory against Cameroon, had raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming match.
In a pre-match conference on Thursday, Coach Jose Peseiro had mentioned that Nwabali would undergo a late fitness test to determine his readiness. However, just hours before the game, Super Eagles Media Officer Babafemi Raji confirmed that the player is in good shape.
Raji stated on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Friday, “He trained yesterday. He trained a day before yesterday. But yesterday was much more intense. So, it simply means he is available for selection today. For him to have trained yesterday with the rest of the team means that he is very much available for selection. In terms of who gets to start, it is the coach’s decision to make. But he is very much available for selection for today’s match.”
He added that the Nigerian players are prepared for the match but emphasized that they would not underestimate their opponents.
