BREAKING: Nigerian govt seals Sahad Store in Abuja
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) on Friday, sealed the doors of the popular supermarket, Sahad Store in Abuja.
The action comes amidst allegations of the store’s management engaging in deceptive pricing practices, leaving customers shortchanged.
Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi, the Acting Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC, spearheaded the enforcement operation.
Addressing the press, Abdullahi said, “Our preliminary investigation has revealed a pattern of misleading pricing and lack of transparency, in direct violation of Section 115 (3) of the law.” He emphasized that customers should not be required to pay prices higher than those displayed on shelves.
Abdullahi cited the potential consequences for violating consumer protection laws, citing Section 155, which stipulates hefty fines of up to 100 million naira for corporations, along with individual liabilities for directors, including fines of 10 million naira each or imprisonment of six months, or both, upon conviction.
