BREAKING: Otukpo LG chairman suspends wheelbarrow pushers after market tragedy

The Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Maxwell Ogiri, has announced the immediate suspension of all wheelbarrow pushers’ operations within the Otukpo Main Market, effective immediately and until further notice.

This action comes in the wake of a tragic incident last week in which a man lost his life following a dispute with wheelbarrow pushers in the market. The incident has caused unrest in and around the market area, reverberating throughout the broader Otukpo community.

In a statement, Hon. Ogiri explained that the suspension will remain in place until a thorough profiling of all individuals intending to operate as wheelbarrow pushers is completed.

Only those who are properly verified and granted operational permits by both the Otukpo Local Government Council and the Nigeria Police Force will be allowed to resume their activities.

The Chairman reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace, security, and order within the local government area.

He also issued a stern warning that any individuals who defy the suspension will face strict legal consequences.
