Several people are feared dead, while at least 30 others are missing after suspected armed herdsmen launched a fresh attack on Agadagba community in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.

The latest assault came after the attackers had earlier invaded nearby Ochobo community, where two residents were reportedly killed.

Sources told IDOMA VOICE that the assailants initially attempted to overrun Agadagba but were resisted by local residents. However, they regrouped and returned on Saturday evening, unleashing heavy gunfire on the community.

The renewed attack forced residents to flee for safety, with many escaping into surrounding bushes as the gunmen reportedly shot indiscriminately.

A resident, who spoke to IDOMA VOICE from a hiding place, described the situation as chaotic, saying the exact number of casualties was yet to be determined.

“They came back in large numbers and started shooting everywhere. People ran in different directions to save their lives. Many have been killed, while about 30 people are still missing. We don’t know whether they are alive or dead because many fled into the bush,” the resident said.

The attack has thrown the community into panic, with families searching for missing relatives amid fears that the death toll could rise.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Details later.
