BREAKING: Supreme Court orders TikTok ban in US

TikTok is set to be banned in the United States from Sunday unless it is sold by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, according to a Supreme Court ruling.

However, President Joe Biden has stated he will not enforce the ban during the final hours of his term, leaving the decision to his successor, Donald Trump, who takes office on Monday.

Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, the White House released a statement emphasizing that TikTok should remain accessible to Americans.

“TikTok should remain available to Americans but under American ownership or other ownership that addresses the national security concerns identified by Congress in developing this law,” the statement read.

The Supreme Court made its decision after hearing appeals from TikTok creators and the app’s legal team, who argued against the ban.

TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has repeatedly refused to sell the app, a move that could prevent the ban from taking effect.

President-elect Trump had previously sought to delay the ban so he could address the issue after taking office. However, the Supreme Court upheld the original decision to impose the ban.

With just one day remaining before Donald Trump assumes the presidency, TikTok, a platform used by 170 million Americans, faces imminent prohibition in the United States.
