President Bola Tinubu granted approval for the appointment of Dr. Olayemi Cardoso as the fresh Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, initially for a term of five years, awaiting confirmation by the Senate.
The directive aligns with Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which confers upon the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria the authority to designate the Governor and four Deputy Governors for the Central Bank of Nigeria, subject to Senate confirmation, as disclosed in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Friday.
The statement is titled ‘President Tinubu nominates new CBN governor and management team for senate screening and confirmation.’
In addition to the nomination of Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, President Tinubu also greenlit the nomination of four new Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria, for an initial term of five years, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nominated Deputy Governors are Mrs. Emem Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.
