BREAKING: Two dead, many wounded as protesters burn down APC Secretariat in Jigawa
Violence erupted in Jigawa State as protests turned deadly, with two individuals reported killed and many others injured after police used live ammunition and tear gas to disperse demonstrators.
The unrest, which spread across more than 10 local government areas in Jigawa, saw widespread destruction and looting of government properties. In Dutse, the state capital, one victim was shot in front of the Government House, while another was killed in Shiwarin town during an attempt by protesters to block the Maiduguri-Kano Road.
Protesters set fire to the All Progressives Congress (APC) headquarters and torched party vehicles in Dutse. In Hadejia, a resident reported that four people were hospitalized due to injuries and suffocation from tear gas used by the police. Agricultural Supply stores in the area were also looted.
In Gumel, protesters vandalized and looted the state Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO), the residence of a local House of Representatives member, and the home of the APC Zonal Vice Chairman. Security forces in the area were overwhelmed.
Birninkudu saw two people injured, and fertilizer and grain stores were vandalized and looted. Demonstrations in Ringim, Jahun, and Kazaure towns were marked by calls for an end to bad governance.
