BREAKING: Two policemen killed as gunmen attack Chris Uba’s convoy in Anambra
The convoy of a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chris Uba was Thursday night in Uga, Aguata local government area of Anambra state attacked by gunmen.
Though he escaped in his bullet proof vehicle, two policemen were gunned down by the hoodlums.
Additional reports revealed that Valentine Ozigbo, a politician affiliated with the Labour Party and a former PDP gubernatorial candidate in 2019, narrowly escaped a similar fate. Ozigbo, returning from Owerri with his family, encountered a convoy aggressively approaching his own. Sensing danger, he instructed his drivers to clear the road for the oncoming convoy. The attackers later engaged in a shootout at UGA junction, resulting in the death of two policemen.
An eyewitness disclosed, “We witnessed what happened. Chris Uba’s convoy ran into the men who were stationed at UGA junction, leading to a shootout. Uba was able to escape because he was riding in a bulletproof vehicle, but the policemen were not so lucky as they were killed.”
Furthermore, it was noted that the vehicles in Uba’s convoy were extensively damaged by bullets. The attackers, donned in military fatigue, seemed to be on a kidnap mission. Following the incidents, the Anambra State Police Command initiated a manhunt for the assailants who infiltrated from a neighboring state. The police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the gang fled upon encountering armed officers, leaving behind a recovered Lexus SUV used by the assailants and a defused improvised explosive device.
In response to the attacks, Commissioner of Police CP Aderemi Adeoye commended the officers for their courageous efforts and urged them not to be demoralized by the sacrifices made. He assured the deployment of technology to track down the criminals, emphasizing that the personnel’s efforts would not be in vain. The Commissioner extended condolences to the families of the deceased officers and the Enugu State Police Command. Despite the challenges, he encouraged the officers to remain vigilant and redouble their efforts in securing Anambra State.
