‘Bring your husband first’ – Aisha Yesufu slams National Assembly over alleged discrimination against Senator Natasha
Rights activist Aisha Yesufu has accused security operatives at the National Assembly of trying to prevent Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from entering the complex unless she was accompanied by her husband.
In a post shared Wednesday on X (formerly Twitter), Yesufu said the security personnel claimed they were acting on “instructions,” a condition she described as discriminatory and disrespectful to women.
“Yesterday the security at the National Assembly were insisting that Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan’s husband has to be around before she will be allowed in. They were insisting that was the instruction given to them,” Yesufu wrote.
“I asked them whether they asked for the wives of other senators before letting them in?
“The see finish we get as women in this country is on another level.
“You are asking a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to bring her husband before you open gate! Kai!!!”
As of press time, officials of the National Assembly had yet to comment on the allegation.
