‘Cooking, oral s3x doesn’t make you less of a man’ – BBNaija’s Elozonam

Former Big Brother Naija housemate and Nollywood actor, Elozonam Ogbolu, has spoken candidly about toxic masculinity and the harmful stereotypes associated with masculinity in society.
Speaking on a recent episode of the In The Company of Men podcast hosted by Ikhane Akhigbe, Elozonam challenged the notion that acts of care and domestic responsibility, such as cooking, buying groceries, or performing oral sex on a partner, undermine a man’s masculinity.
According to him, such beliefs are rooted in toxic masculinity and continue to negatively affect relationships and self-perception among Nigerian men.
“When it comes to certain things men aren’t accustomed to doing, it screams toxic masculinity,” he said. “Some guys think giving a woman oral sex isn’t masculine. Serving a woman, doing things for her, or even buying a sanitary pad, many toxic males in Nigeria believe these acts strip them of their manhood. But they don’t.”
Elozonam urged men to be more supportive and emotionally available to their partners, saying that love and responsibility shouldn’t be defined by outdated gender roles.
He also pointed out that women, consciously or not, sometimes reinforce toxic masculinity by romanticizing aggressive or controlling behaviors.
“Toxic masculinity is still fueled by the opposite gender,” he said. “There are women who can’t be with a man unless he’s toxic. It’s what they use to measure love. Some even go as far as saying a man doesn’t love you unless he beats you. How? Why?”
Elozonam’s remarks have sparked renewed conversations on gender roles and emotional maturity in modern relationships, especially within the African context.
