Delta communal clash claims three lives

Tragedy unfolded in the Ubulu-Uku community, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, as a confrontation between a vigilante member named Sule Ukah and a group of suspected herdsmen resulted in three casualties.

According to information gathered by PUNCH Metro, the incident occurred when the assailants ambushed the bush along the Ubulu-Uku-Issele-Uku Road, leading to the fatal shooting of the vigilante member. The violence escalated into an exchange of gunfire between the community’s vigilante members and the unidentified attackers.

In addition to the vigilante member, who was fatally shot, a commercial motorcycle operator, and a woman were also wounded during the confrontation. The incident raised concerns about security within the area, prompting a response from law enforcement authorities.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, confirmed the incident, revealing that two individuals lost their lives in the attack. He stated that the conflict originated from a dispute between the vigilante group and members of the community. In response, he dispatched tactical forces to the area to restore order.

Abass urged residents not to take matters into their own hands and encouraged them to report issues to the police rather than resorting to self-help. He also disclosed that one person had been arrested in connection with the attack, and investigations were ongoing.

In an update on the achievements of the police force, Abass reported the successful arrest of over 13 kidnappers, seven armed robbers, and 72 individuals associated with cult activities. Additionally, they seized 54 firearms, 286 rounds of ammunition, and 195 cartridges during their operations.
