Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has officially dissolved his cabinet ahead of the inauguration of Senator Monday Okpebholo from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the new governor.

Naija News reports that the dissolution took place on Friday, following a valedictory session at the Government House in Benin City.

The motion for the dissolution of the State Executive Council for the 2020-2024 term was proposed by Deputy Governor Godwins Omobayo and seconded by Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Osilama Okuofu.

This move comes just five days before the end of Obaseki’s two-term tenure as Governor of Edo State.

During the valedictory session, Governor Obaseki thanked the State Executive Council members for their role in helping his administration achieve its vision of revitalizing Edo, fulfilling the promises made to the people. He also expressed gratitude to the people of Edo for their support, prayers, and collaboration, which played a key part in the administration’s successes across various sectors over the past eight years.

In their speeches, members of Obaseki’s cabinet praised his achievements in areas such as education, the economy, agriculture, power, and infrastructure. They also thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve in their respective roles, expressing pride in the reforms and projects that have significantly improved the lives of the people, positioning Edo as a model of growth and development for other states.

The outgoing commissioners and heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) presented awards and gifts to Governor Obaseki as a token of appreciation for his exemplary leadership. The valedictory session concluded with a dinner in his honor.
