The Commissioner of Police in Benue State, Ene Okon, has warned politicians arming thugs with prohibited arms in the state to desist from doing so as tough time awaits them if apprehended by security operatives.

Okon in his maiden news conference in Makurdi, said that those desperate politicians currently arming thugs across the state to inflict injury or cause mayhem on innocent citizens do not mean well for the state.

“It would be proper for politicians to sell themselves to the electorates rather than arming thugs for their selfish aims. I therefore warn all the people of the state especially politicians to desist from illegally acquiring and using arms, for whatever reason and to shun any act capable of disrupting peace in the state,” he said.

The commissioner added that he would personally go after the sponsors of those thugs, as he stressed that his target would be focus on the sponsors to bring them to face the wrath of the law, no matter how highly placed in the society.

He further disclosed that the command under his watch had notice the unwholesome and intolerable situation of mostly unregistered motorcycles riders who are using their bikes to commit heinous crime such as kidnapping and armed robberies within the state.

Okon said his command would not allow such kind of crime to flourish as it would henceforth begin to clampdown on unregistered motorcycles and those using fake number plates just as he emphasised that the ban on motorcycles movement beyond 8:00pm in the state is still in force.
