EPL: Mike Dean set to retire as referee after 22 years

Mike Dean will retire as a Premier League referee at the end of the season, capping a 22-year career in the English top division.

The 53-year-old is easily one of the most well-known officials in the Premier League today.

Since his promotion to the Premier League in 2000, Dean has overseen 553 games.

He has officiated more games than any of his colleagues and has also issued the most red cards (114).

According to the UK Telegraph, Dean’s on-field career will come to an end in the 2021/22 season.

It is suggested that Dean is currently in talks with the Professional Game Match Officials (PGMOL), to potentially continue as one of just two full-time VAR officials, meaning his sole responsibility would be working from Stockley Park.
