Ex-Benue lawmaker, Hon. Elias Ekpiri begins final home journey

The final home journey of former Benue lawmaker, Hon. Elias Ekpiri, aged 79, has commenced with a series of activities lined up to celebrate his life and legacy.

According to the burial arrangement, a Wake Keep and Service of Songs was held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at his Makurdi residence, with many people paying glowing tributes to the octogenarian.

This will be followed by a Requiem Mass on Friday, November 7, at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Catholic Church, New GRA, Makurdi, before his remains will be moved to his hometown, Rijo, Utonkon, Ado Local Government Area, for a Vigil Mass and Service of Songs.

On Saturday, November 8, at 10:00 a.m., the Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rijo, Utonkon, followed by interment at the family home in Rijo at 11:00 a.m.

A Thanksgiving Mass is scheduled for Sunday, November 9, at 8:00 a.m., also at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rijo, Utonkon, Ado LGA.

Hon. Ekpiri, who was born in 1946, was the pioneer Councillor of the old Irabi Council Ward in the former Oju Local Government Area.

His exceptional versatility and commitment to public service earned him a strategic portfolio as Supervisory Councillor for Education, Health, and Social Services, where he served with distinction.

He was widely respected for his humility, leadership, and dedication to community development.
