FA Cup: Man United to face Arsenal, Liverpool host Accrington Stanley

Defending champions Manchester United have been drawn to face 14-time FA Cup winners Arsenal in the third round.

Premier League leaders Liverpool will host League Two side Accrington Stanley, while Manchester City will welcome Salford City, owned by members of the ‘Class of 92’.

Non-league side Tamworth, one of the last two non-league clubs remaining in the competition, will play at home against Tottenham Hotspur.

The third-round fixtures are scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, January 11. This round marks the entry of the 44 Premier League and Championship clubs, who will join the 20 lower-league and non-league clubs that progressed from the second round.

There were audible groans from Manchester United supporters at Old Trafford as their team was drawn against Arsenal, after United won the trophy for a 13th time by defeating rivals Manchester City in May.

Salford City, owned by former Manchester United stars Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, and David Beckham, will face Manchester City in a highly anticipated clash.

Tamworth, the lowest-ranked team left in the competition, earned their spot with a penalty shootout win over League One side Burton Albion and will now host Spurs under manager Ange Postecoglou. Fellow National League side Dagenham & Redbridge will travel to Championship team Millwall.

In another intriguing tie, Everton’s 39-year-old full-back Ashley Young could face his 18-year-old son Tyler, with Everton drawing Peterborough United at home. “Wow…dreams might come true,” Young posted on X.

Chelsea will host League Two’s bottom side Morecambe, while Bromley, also from the fourth tier, will face Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
