At least one person has been confirmed dead and two others injured following a farmer-herder clash in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State.

The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Monday when a herder, identified as Hassan Auta from Fulani camp in Makwagi village, allegedly led his cattle into the farm of Hadiza Usman in Koroka village.

According to security sources, an altercation broke out after Usman asked Auta to remove his cattle. The herder allegedly attacked her with a machete, inflicting deep cuts on her left thigh.

Her son, Bashiru Mohammed, who rushed to her aid, was also attacked and sustained an injury on his left hand. In retaliation, Mohammed struck Auta on the head with a machete. The herder reportedly died from severe bleeding before medical help could reach him.

Police operatives later evacuated the corpse and moved the injured victims to General Hospital, Agaie, for treatment.

Authorities said an investigation into the incident has commenced.
