FG declares May 1 public holiday

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday in celebration of Workers’ Day.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released Tuesday night and signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo praised Nigerian workers for their dedication, resilience, and contributions to national development, noting that their efforts significantly enhance the country’s global reputation. He emphasized that peace remains a critical foundation for industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.

The minister urged workers across the country to embrace innovation and enhance productivity in their various fields, stressing that such values are essential for progress and nation-building.

“As we celebrate Workers’ Day, we must recognise the dignity in labour,” he said. “Our dedication and commitment to duty are vital in shaping a prosperous Nigeria.”

Tunji-Ojo reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and assured citizens of the administration’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property across the country.

He ended by encouraging Nigerians to remain hopeful and work collectively to build a more prosperous and secure nation.
