Flamingos crowned WAFU-B U-17 girls champions after 4-0 win over Togo

The Flamingos of Nigeria have won the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup. They defeated Togo 4-0 in the final in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

Nigeria completed a perfect campaign at the tournament. The Flamingos won all five matches to claim the regional title.

Captain Chidera Harmony played a major role in the final. She scored twice from the penalty spot before half-time.

Harmony opened the scoring in the 15th minute. She then converted another penalty in the 35th minute.

As a result, Nigeria went into the break with a 2-0 advantage.

After the restart, the Flamingos continued to control the game. Oluebube Umejiaku increased their lead in the 67th minute.

Togo struggled to create a response. Meanwhile, Nigeria kept pressing for more goals.

The pressure paid off in the 90th minute. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi scored the fourth goal to complete the 4-0 victory.

The result gave Nigeria five wins from five matches. It also capped an impressive campaign for the Flamingos.

Furthermore, the victory gives coach Hakeem Busari and his players a boost ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The Flamingos will now shift their attention to the global tournament. Nigeria will hope to build on its impressive regional performance.

Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Emmanuel Ikpeme, praised the players and officials after their success.

Ikpeme said the Flamingos had made Nigeria proud. He also backed the players to deliver another strong performance in Morocco.

He described the team’s five victories as a major achievement. According to him, the unbeaten run showed the quality and determination of the players.

Ikpeme also praised WAFU-B for organising the competition. He said the tournament provided important preparation for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

He added that the Flamingos gained valuable experience from the championship. That experience, he noted, should benefit the team in Morocco next month.

The 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup bronze medallists are expected back in Nigeria on Tuesday.
