The Joint Committees on Aviation of the National Assembly has resolved to summon airline operators and aviation agencies over persistent flight delays.

This was disclosed on Thursday by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Smart Adeyemi.

The lawmaker representing Kogi West senatorial district made this known during an oversight visit to the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).

Senator Adeyemi said all airline operators under the aegis of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) would be summoned to know the cause of flight delays.

He stated that flight delays have become worse in recent times despite efforts by the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to make airspace safer.

Senator Adeyemi said the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has been doing its best to provide timely and up-to-date weather information.

Also speaking, a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Nnaji Nnolim said describe the spate of flight delays across the country as unacceptable.

The lawmaker said the problem of flight delays is affecting businesses, which in turn affects the economy.

“We can no longer take it. We will invite AON. We need to agree on this issue of flight delays,” he said.

IDOMA VOICE reports that this is coming against the backdrop of the recent spate of flight delays in the aviation sector.

Nigerians have taken to social media to condemn airlines like Air Peace and Arik over flight delays without prior warning or explanation.
