From Otukpa to the World: The Inspiring journey of Akor Adams, Sevilla’s new striker
Idoma land has long been a cradle of footballing talent, producing legends like Daniel Amokachi, Ogenyi Onazi, Tony Ujah, and Moses Simon.
Now, Akor Jerome Adams joins this illustrious list, taking the football world by storm as he signs a contract with La Liga’s Sevilla FC, cementing his place as one of Nigeria’s most promising talents, IDOMA VOICE reports.
Born on January 29, 2000, in Odoba, a serene Idoma-speaking community along the Otukpo-Enugu road in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, Akor’s journey to stardom is a tale of perseverance, talent and resilience.
IDOMA VOICE recalls that Akor’s love for football blossomed on the dusty fields of Odoba and Obu Branch, and other neigbouring villages where his dazzling skills and natural flair earned him the admiration of local fans.
From a young age, it was clear that Akor was destined for greatness. His speed, power, and clinical finishing set him apart from his peers, making him a ‘star’ even before stepping onto the professional stage.
Akor’s professional career began in August 2018 when he joined Norwegian side Sogndal from Nigeria’s Jamba Football Academy.
Despite facing challenges, including an injury that sidelined him during the 2020 season, Akor showcased his determination by scoring 10 goals in 28 games for Sogndal before his contract expired in 2021.
In December 2021, Akor signed a three-year deal with Lillestrøm SK, where he continued to shine.
His debut in the Norwegian Cup saw him score against Nardo, followed by an impressive goal in his Eliteserien debut against HamKam.
His growing reputation as a lethal forward caught the attention of scouts across Europe, leading to his move to Ligue 1 club Montpellier in August 2023, IDOMA VOICE can reort.
Fast forward to January 2025, Akor Adams has now joined Sevilla FC, one of Spain’s most storied football clubs.
The La Liga side secured his services for approximately €5 million, with Akor signing a contract until 2029.
This move marks a significant milestone in his career, as he steps onto one of the biggest stages in European football.
Akor’s arrival at Sevilla signals not only his meteoric rise but also his potential to become one of the standout players in La Liga. Joining compatriots like Ejuke and Iheanacho in Spain, Akor brings with him a combination of youthful energy, tactical awareness, and an eye for goals.
While Akor’s success on the pitch is remarkable, his aspirations go beyond football. In his own words:
“I have a dream—one that’s bigger than me. I was once just like the kids in the communities where I grew up, and today, I’ve been blessed to become a public figure. This year, for my birthday on January 29, I want to give back in a meaningful way.”
Akor is launching a fundraiser to support children in orphanages in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. His vision is to provide school fees, food, and a sense of hope to these children, ensuring they have a brighter future.
“This fundraiser is not about me—it’s about extending our hands of love and hope to those who need it most,” he explains.
As Akor dons the iconic white and red jersey of Sevilla, expectations are high. The club’s history of nurturing talent aligns perfectly with Akor’s ambition to make a mark on the global stage.
For Nigeria, Akor represents a beacon of hope and inspiration for young footballers dreaming of turning their passion into a career.
The future is bright for the boy from Odoba. With his unwavering determination and the support of fans back home and abroad, Akor Adams is poised to achieve even greater heights.
From Otukpa to the world, his journey is a testament to the power of dreams and hard work.
