Fulani herdsmen: PDP intervenes in Ortom vs Bala Mohammed ‘fight’
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has waded into the rift between two of its governors, Samuel Ortom of Benue State and his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed.
Following a statement credited to Bala claiming that Fulani herdsmen have right to carry arms by virtue of their occupation, and the counter-comment by Samuel Ortom insisting that Bala is a “terrorist” for making such remark, a riff has been brewing between the two of them.
But, reacting, the leadership of their party, the PDP, pleaded for calm and asked them to shade their swords.
The party said it has activated the party’s internal reconciliation mechanism to settle the matter between the two governors. It also called on the Nigerian government to take urgent steps to address the escalated security challenges in the country.
The opposition part in a series of tweets on Tuesday, wrote;
“Bala/Ortom: PDP wades In, Calls for Calm
@OfficialPDPNig assures that it has waded into the rift between Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed and his Benue State counterpart, Governor Samuel Ortom.
“The @OfficialPDPNig calls for calm as the internal reconciliation mechanism introduced by the hierarchy of the party between the two governors subsists.”
