Gabriel Jesus scores 84 seconds into debut vs Nurnberg
Gabriel Jesus scored just 84 seconds into his Arsenal debut in their pre-season friendly against Nurnberg on Friday afternoon.
The Brazilian, signed in a £45m from Manchester City this summer, was named on the bench for the match at the Max-Morlock-Stadion.
Mikel Arteta would have wanted his side to get their pre-season off to a winning start.
But they were completely outclassed in the first-half against their German opponents.
Nurnberg broke the deadlock in the 24th minute through Johannes Geis. Kwadwo Duah doubled the home side’s lead four minutes later.
Jesus entered the fray with his new side 2-0 down at half-time.
And it didn’t take him very long at all to make his mark.
It took the Brazilian forward just 84 seconds to score his first goal for the club.
Jesus played a one-two with Eddie Nketiah inside the box. One-on-one with the goalkeeper, the former Man City ace composed himself and and then fired the ball into the back of the net from a tight angle.
Arsenal proceeded to score three goals in the next 16 minutes to completely turn the game on its head.
Mohamed Elneny restored parity in the 54th minute as he belted home an effort from some 30 yards.
Own-goals from Christopher Schindler and Timhandwerker made it 4-2 to Arsenal.
Nurnberg pulled one back through Lukas Schleimer, only for Jesus to score his second and restore Arsenal’s two-goal advantage moments after.
There were no further goals as Arsenal won 5-3.
What a dream start to Jesus’ career at the north London club.
Arsenal fans have every reason to be excited about the 25-year-old. He could well fire Arsenal back to the Champions League in the 2022/23 campaign.
