Prominent legal practitioner and philanthropist, Chief Godwin Obla (SAN), has reiterated his commitment to improving access to quality healthcare in Benue South, with a pledge to subsidize the cost of dialysis treatment for less privileged patients at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo (FUHSTHO).

Chief Obla made the promise during a visit to the hospital ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an Ultra-Modern Amenity Ward, a project being sponsored by the Godwin Obla Foundation.

Speaking during the visit, Chief Obla said his initiative was driven by a desire to ensure that life-saving medical care, particularly for kidney patients, is not limited by financial constraints.

“No one should be denied dialysis or any form of treatment simply because they cannot afford it. Health is a right, not a privilege,” he said.

He explained that the forthcoming amenity ward project is part of his broader vision to strengthen the healthcare system in Benue South and support medical personnel with improved working conditions.

The Chief Medical Director of FUHSTHO, Professor Teddy Eyaofun Agida, commended Chief Obla for his consistent support, describing his intervention as a major boost to the hospital’s infrastructure and patient welfare.

“Chief Obla has been a dependable partner in our growth story. His generosity and interest in advancing healthcare delivery are truly commendable,” Professor Agida said.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Ultra-Modern Amenity Ward is scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the hospital premises in Otukpo.

When completed, the facility is expected to enhance service delivery, expand patient accommodation, and provide improved amenities for both patients and medical staff.
