Gov Okpebholo threatens to sack non-performing contractors
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has issued a stern warning to contractors working on the state’s road and drainage projects, insisting they adhere strictly to approved specifications and deadlines or face contract revocation.
During an inspection on Wednesday, the governor expressed his dissatisfaction with the pace and quality of work at several sites, including Orior-Ozolua Community, Orior Uteh Palace Road, New Uteh Road in Ekiuwa Quarters, and the open drainage area at Upper Ekenhuan near the Nigerian Army Cantonment.
At the Orior-Ozolua Community site, he specifically criticized the contractor for reducing the drainage width from the agreed standards.
“Why did you reduce the width of the drain? You altered both sides. Look at my face—if you don’t follow the approved specifications, I will revoke this contract without hesitation,” Okpebholo declared.
He emphasized that public resources must be managed effectively and that projects should meet the high standards required to serve the needs of Edo residents.
The governor’s visit underscores his administration’s commitment to ensuring quality infrastructure work, with contractors held accountable for any deviations.
