Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has tweeted despite the ban on the usage of Twitter in Nigeria by the federal government.

IDOMA VOICE recalls that the federal government had banned the operation of the microblogging site for ignoring inciting tweets by the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and went ahead to delete a tweet credited to the President Muhammadu Buhari.

Despite the ban, prominent Nigerians, including Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, Pastor Enoch Adeboye of RCCG, Pastor WF Kumuyi of Deeper Life and several other celebrities have been tweeting through the aide of Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Joining the league of ‘violators’ on Tuesday, Governor Ortom took to his official Twitter handle, @GovSamuelOrtom, to reiterate his earlier stance on the ban on Twitter in Nigeria.

He tweeted thus, “The ban on Twitter is not only illegal but it is also an ill-advised move to divert the attention of Nigerians from the FG’s failure to tackle insecurity in parts of the country. It amounts to suppression of fundamental human rights and gagging of social media.”
