House of Representatives Appoints Children of Former Governors as Committee Chairmen
During the Thursday plenary session, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced the constitution of 134 standing committees in the House of Representatives, and it has drawn attention as five children of former governors have been appointed as Chairmen of various committees.
The composition of the standing committees adheres to the constitutional provisions and house standing rules, granting the parliament the authority to exercise oversight functions on government agencies and programs and address specific issues of national importance through these committees.
The appointed children of former governors and their respective committees are as follows:
Ibori Suenu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member from Delta, has been appointed as Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC) committee. His father, James Ibori, was governor of Delta State between 1999 and 2007.
Mohammed Bello el-Rufai, an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker from Kaduna, will head the Banking Regulation committee. Mohammed is the son of Nasir el-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna.
Adegboyega Adefarati of the APC from Ondo has been appointed Chairman of the Labour, Employment, and Productivity committee. He is the son of the late former governor of Ondo, Adebayo Adefarati, who governed from 1999 to 2003.
Olamiju Akala from Oyo has been assigned as Chairman of the Youth in Parliament committee. He is the son of the late Alao Akala, a former governor of Oyo.
Olumide Osoba has been appointed Chairman of the Justice committee. Olumide is the son of Segun Osoba, former governor of Ogun, who served between 1992 and 2003.
