INEC voter pre-registration hits 7.4 million, Borno records highest turnout
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a total of 7,415,760 Nigerians have completed online pre-registration in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
According to INEC’s update released on Monday, Borno State leads with 783,546 registrants, followed by Osun (632,751), Lagos (590,341), Kebbi (557,778), and Kaduna (471,375).
The commission said the exercise, which began on August 18, has also seen 1,502,733 Nigerians complete both online and physical registration as of October 12.
Out of the total online pre-registrations, 3,877,330 (52.28%) were female, while 3,538,430 (47.72%) were male. Youths between the ages of 18 and 34 accounted for 5,095,056, students 1,873,848, and 168,680 persons with disabilities (PWDs) also registered.
INEC further revealed that, for week seven of the exercise (October 6–10), 878,715 registrants completed their registration online, while 674,018 did so physically. Females accounted for 55.14% (828,563) of completed registrations, while males represented 44.86% (674,170).
In terms of occupation, students topped the list with 507,097 (33.74%), followed by business owners (279,384; 18.59%) and housewives (223,903; 14.90%).
The update also indicated that 21,244 PWDs (1.41%) successfully registered during the period.
INEC noted that Lagos recorded the highest number of completed registrations for the week with 78,128, followed by Kano (82,703) and Oyo (43,165).
The commission added that registration activities remain suspended in Anambra State until after the November 8 governorship election.
