IPOB accuses FG of abandoning Nnamdi Kanu case amid adjournments
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has leveled accusations against the Federal Government, claiming that it is exploiting adjournments to effectively desert the case involving its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Expressing his concerns, Emma Powerful, the spokesperson for IPOB, conveyed the organization’s frustration with the Federal Government’s seeming abandonment of the legal proceedings against Kanu. Powerful questioned the government’s hesitance in pursuing the case to its logical end.
A segment of Powerful’s statement reads: “The leadership of IPOB, under the capable guidance of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wants to emphasize once more the actions taken by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Supreme Court of Nigeria in relation to the unlawful detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.”
“It is evident that the Nigerian Federal Government has, in essence, forsaken their pursuit of an appeal against our esteemed leader at the Supreme Court. This retreat is reflective of their lack of substantial evidence against a principled man who is committed to liberating the oppressed and marginalized segments of our society.”
“As the most significant legal case in Nigeria’s history, it is incumbent upon the government to ensure the meticulous prosecution of the lawsuit, rather than evading the jurisdiction of their own judiciary. The irony persists as the Federal Government’s target of prosecution is the very individual summoning them to face the court. Is this not an astonishing turn of events?”
“What is causing the Federal Government to shrink from pursuing a case that they themselves initiated against Kanu in the Supreme Court? We demand an explanation for this apprehension. In light of the government’s and the judiciary’s reluctance to address this matter, could there exist a higher authority accessible to our leader for recourse, given the apparent unwillingness of the Nigerian Supreme Court to entertain this affair?”
IPOB’s accusations shed light on the mounting tensions surrounding the legal case involving Nnamdi Kanu, while raising questions about the government’s commitment to upholding due process and the rule of law.
