Israel kills Iranian Navy Chief overseeing strait of Hormuz blockade

The Israeli government has said it eliminated an Iranian naval commander linked to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route that carries roughly 20% of global energy supplies.

Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, stated that Alireza Tangsiri was “directly responsible” for enforcing the blockade and claimed he had been killed in an explosion.

The Strait of Hormuz — one of the busiest oil transit corridors in the world — has remained largely obstructed by Iran since hostilities escalated last month.

Earlier, a prominent international policy group warned that the disruption is driving up costs, dampening demand, and increasing inflationary pressure worldwide.

It remains unclear whether the reported killing of Iran’s naval chief will weaken the blockade or lead to further tightening.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Iran had been “militarily crushed” and said its representatives were “begging” for negotiations, though Iranian authorities have denied that any talks with the United States are ongoing.

In a related development, an Iranian official on Wednesday outlined five conditions for ending the conflict, following reports that Tehran had received a 15-point proposal from the U.S. government.
